Bhuvanesh is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (Innsbruck Campus), a member institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Prior to this, he was a Welch Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University, Houston, USA. Bhuvanesh completed his PhD in Physics under the supervision of Prof. Erich Mueller at Cornell University, Ithaca, USA. He received his undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. Bhuvanesh grew up in Chennai, India.
His research interests lie in theoretically exploring ideas for quantum simulation of interesting physical phenomena that are otherwise difficult to simulate. Particularly, he uses dilute ultracold gases to produce novel phases of matter, and develops algorithms for solving optimization problems on noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices. He is currently interested in developing variational quantum algorithms for preparing interesting quantum states of matter. Bhuvanesh is passionate about teaching. He enjoys rock-climbing, and also engages in hiking, skiing, chess and squash.
